HEY. Five years, thousands of miles, and [none of your business] pounds later, I am finally returning to Los Angeles to soak up some sunshine. Winter's approach is wearing down on my spirit, so I figure it's time to go West to celebrate my birthday (12/10), catch up with friends and people I've met since leaving, and to eat like hell. My friends are wearing shorts and crop tops while I'm fighting to keep sniffles and ashiness at bay. Life is unfair.
While in Los Angeles, in addition to ze eating (open to recommendations) and recording a few episodes of The Extraordinary Negroes, I will be offering a creative writing workshop for writers of all levels to be able to experiment, share, fellowship, and grow together.
This shall be a one-day writing workshop focused on producing new writing via a series of improvisational writing exercises and group activities. In this welcoming, encouraging environment surrounded by other winners, you will get to work those creative muscles and share what you have written, if you like. By the end of the session, you will have several new pieces of writing that can be expanded into blog posts, essays, book chapters, screenplays, Ava DuVernay-directed masterpieces, etc. Additionally, we will workshop material you bring in for critique, if you decide to.
Bring your fiction or non-fiction completed works or works-in-progress to receive positive, constructive feedback on your writing from me and your fellow writers. If you are bringing work in to be critiqued, please make at least 10 copies in proper manuscript format (no wacky fonts/colors), no more than 1500 words of prose/essay writing, or 15 pages of a screenplay.
What to bring:
- Your love of writing
- Pen/pencil and notebook, or
- Laptop
Who can attend:
This workshop is open to anyone interested in creative writing.
Participants will be capped at 10 to keep this intimate and to ensure everyone has ample time to share.
